Lawyer's interpretation: The Supreme Court's opinion strengthens the legal protection of Bitcoin and other products, and legislation and further judicial interpretation may be carried out in the future

On July 22, the Supreme People's Court and the National Development and Reform Commission jointly issued relevant opinions, saying that the protection of new rights and interests such as digital currency, network virtual property, and data will be strengthened. Lawyer Xia Wei interpreted Wu's blockchain, first, the previous central bank's five-department document defined virtual assets such as Bitcoin as commodities, and this time it was made clear from the perspective of the Supreme Court that digital currency is legal property and will be protected. Although the document does not make a clear definition of digital currency, it can be seen from many effective judgments that digital currencies such as Bitcoin are protected by law. Second, equity assets mainly refer to assets such as stocks, shares, and funds. The document calls digital currency, network virtual property, and data new rights and interests, which classifies them into the former and gives them the same status. Third, from the perspective of the Supreme Court, it should be protected through legislation and judicial perspectives, such as formulating corresponding judicial interpretations and publishing guiding cases. Of course, protecting them does not mean indulging a series of illegal and criminal acts in the digital currency industry chain, such as pyramid schemes and money laundering.
