Don’t miss it | The third edition of the Filecoin Global Miner Community Conference

Following the second Filecoin Miners Conference on May 29, on July 22, Filecoin officially launched another global miner community video conference which was successfully concluded. It is expected that this community video will be the most important briefing for the official team before the launch of the large miner test network.

At the event, the official shared a lot of achievements in the IPFS/Filecoin ecosystem. We have sorted out some of the key points as follows:

1. The launch week of the big miner test network will still start on August 3;

2. Calibration test window: July 20-August 2;

3. In terms of economic model parameters, the preliminary parameters have entered the code stage, but there is still some distance to the final version;

4. During the big miner test, a miner mailbox can merge up to 16 miner codes ;

5. Bot (robot) is set up in Europe, and Chinese miners should test the network environment in advance (VPN may be required) ;

6. The more orders a miner gets from the robot, the better. The reward depends on the miner's storage capacity and the success rate of transaction orders .

7. The top 20 miners in terms of block revenue can share an additional reward of 100,000 FIL;

8. Risk Warning: In order to ensure the fairness of the competition, the official will strictly verify the miner address information. Anyone who attempts to falsify the location will be publicly banned and any rewards in any region will be cancelled.

Then the official gave the key points and indicators of the large miner test:

1. Original value computing power-an important indicator for testing the strength of large miners

2. Order transaction success rate - measure whether miners provide real and effective storage

3. Sector lifecycle - miners can increase committed space through sector upgrades.

Q1: If I am in China, do I need a VPN to receive transactions?

A: It depends on your individual situation, since you are providing storage on the mainnet, you should find a setup that allows you to sync with the global network.

Q2: Is there a minimum miner size requirement to receive rewards?

A: There is no hard minimum requirement. As long as you are in the top 100 globally or top 50 in your region, and meet other requirements, you are eligible for the reward.

Q3: How to conduct AML (anti-money laundering)/KYC identity authentication in large miner rewards?

A: If you qualify for a reward, our partners at CoinList will contact you via your registered email address to add your reward to the genesis block. You will need to provide a government-issued photo ID and other details that may be required.

Q4：Can I merge multiple miner identities into one during the competition?

A: Yes, you can merge up to 16 into one. Just register the miner with the same email address and leave a message in the #space-race channel on Filecoin's Slack.

Q5: Has the minimum requirement for the competition been adjusted to 10TB?

A: Yes, the competition rewards are based on storage computing power, and there is no minimum requirement for the size of miners. The minimum miner size requirement is related to the generation of blocks, and the indicator for large miner competitions is the original value computing power.

The only exception is the newly announced additional 100,000 FIL rewards, which will be shared by the top 20 block producers. The threshold for this reward has not yet been finalized, but we are confident that the top 20 storage hashrate will be successful.

Q6: When will the specific parameters of the economic model be announced?

A: As we said, we are working on putting some preliminary parameters into the code. Note that these are just test parameters and are not finalized yet. As we test and validate our mechanism, the parameters will continue to be updated and improved. We are also planning to publish more articles on the motivations and philosophy of our design.

Q7: Where are the robots responsible for simulating orders in the big miner test competition deployed? Do Chinese miners need to open VPN to receive transactions sent by the robots?

A: The robot is deployed in Europe. We cannot help individuals test their network connection, but everyone should test whether they can establish a connection with a large number of other Filecoin nodes to test their own network.

Q8: Can the official Discover hard drive skip the packaging process on the mainnet?

A: No, the data still needs to be encapsulated.

Q9: Are there any official recommended hardware standards?

A: Protocol Labs does not make any specific recommendations. However, we have published some of our own designs, including an overview of machines currently suitable for testing and small-scale mining, as well as community-submitted benchmarks.

Q10: How do you verify the location of miners?

A: During the competition, or once the competition is over, we will send instructions to the miners’ registered email addresses. We will verify through a combination of technical means and real-world means.

Important: We have strict requirements for the integrity of the competition. Fake positions will result in public bans and revocation of all rewards in all regions.
