Global peer-to-peer Bitcoin transaction volume reaches highest point since January 2018

Total global peer-to-peer Bitcoin trading volume has surged to its highest level since January 2018, with nearly $95 million in Bitcoin ( BTC ) traded on Localbitcoins and Paxful in the first week of August.
Many Latin American markets have seen record highs in bitcoin trading activity in recent weeks, with Argentina, Mexico, Chile, Bolivia, Honduras, Paraguay, Uruguay and the Bahamas all seeing their highest levels since early July.
Latin America’s weekly peer-to-peer trading volume reached nearly $13 billion, with Venezuela still accounting for the largest share of trading volume, with trading volume exceeding $5 million for two consecutive weeks. Colombia is the second largest market in Latin America, with trading volume exceeding $3 million, followed by Argentina and Peru, with weekly trading volume of about $1 million.
If weekly volumes increase by $1 million, peer-to-peer trading in Latin America will reach an all-time high.
African peer-to-peer market surges
Peer-to-peer trading volumes in Africa are also continuing to rise, with sub-Saharan Africa setting new trading volume records in seven of the past 10 weeks.
While Nigeria still accounts for 50% of the region’s approximately $18 million in weekly trading volume, markets in South Africa, Ghana, Kenya, Botswana, Zambia and Sudan have all set new records in the past two weeks.
Kenya is the second-largest market in Africa with $3.6 million in weekly volume, followed by South Africa and Ghana at around $2 million each.
Indian peer-to-peer transactions have hit record highs in four of the past five weeks, recently breaking $4 million for the first time. (Cointelegraph Chinese)
