Honghu police cracked a money laundering case using Bitcoin

Recently, the Wulin Police Station of the Honghu City Public Security Bureau in Hubei Province focused on implementing the work deployment of the "Card Cutting" special operation, successfully arrested two suspects, and cracked a case of assisting in information network fraud.

After investigation, it was found that the suspect Zhou and his roommate Xiong rented a house in a residential area in Wuhan Optics Valley. The two opened a trading account on a Bitcoin trading platform and, under the cover of being merchants on the trading platform, contacted customers offline who wanted to buy Bitcoin for "money laundering". Among these customers were members of a telecommunications fraud gang. They transferred the defrauded funds from the victims into the bank accounts of Zhou and Xiong and asked them to help buy Bitcoin, thereby laundering money.

After Zhou was arrested, his accomplice Xiong fled abroad. On July 27, the police arrested him with the cooperation of Zhijiang police. At present, Zhou and Xiong, the suspects involved in the "assisting letter case", have been detained by Honghu police according to law, and the case is being handled.
