Wu said that according to HK Radio, Hong Kong police said they arrested 19 people after many people were defrauded of at least HK$11 million after being promised that they could get rich by investing in cryptocurrencies. Fraudsters targeted 170 people in different places, including mainland China and the United Kingdom, using pictures of luxurious lifestyles, fake web pages and fake programs to convince victims to give up their cash. Hong Kong police said scams involving cryptocurrencies have become more and more common, with 496 such cases occurring in Hong Kong in the first half of this year, exceeding the total number recorded in 2020. Previously, British police also arrested several Hong Kong people in the StableMagnet runaway case. |
