Musk said, “I hope to do more due diligence to confirm that the use of renewable energy is likely to reach or exceed 50%, and that this proportion has an increasing trend. If this is the case, Tesla will resume accepting Bitcoin payments.”

Musk added: “Tesla’s mission is to accelerate the arrival of the sustainable energy era. We can’t do that without doing proper investigation into Bitcoin’s energy use.”

He added that in addition to the Bitcoin held by Tesla and SpaceX, he also personally holds Bitcoin, Ethereum and Dogecoin.

“I might push the price up, but I’m not going to sell the highs,” he said. “I absolutely do not believe in pumping the price up and then selling it. ... I want to see Bitcoin succeed.”
