Bitcoin could hit $100,000 this year

Bitcoin price predictions vary depending on the methodology used, but Stock-to-Flow creator PlanB leans toward his $100,000 average target.

Bitcoin ( BTC ) could surge to $100,000 or bottom out at $30,000 before Christmas — but one of its most prominent analysts is betting on the moon.
In a Twitter update on Thursday, PlanB, the creator of the Stock-to-Flow series of BTC price models, cast new doubts on Bitcoin’s bearish trajectory.
PlanB Focuses on ‘Critical’ Remaining Months With BTC/USD trading at $47,000 this week, PlanB has a lot to live up to.
His most recent prediction of a minimum monthly close in August lines up perfectly with current prices — and if the remaining four are equally accurate, Bitcoin could end 2021 at $135,000.
The first incarnation of stock-to-flow called for an average BTC price of $100,000 during this halving cycle, but May’s shift has earned the money with its tried-and-true precision.
Despite this, PlanB is sticking with it, arguing that it has not yet failed and that there is no proven better alternative.
One such alternative model, which now seems unlikely to be realized, is the logarithmic “diminishing returns” chart originally produced by Bitcointalk forum user Trololo in 2014.
The adjusted version calculates a BTC/USD price of just $30,000 by the end of the year, which PlanB believes is less likely than the $100,000 stock-to-flow figure.
“The next few months will be critical,” he added in an accompanying chart comparing the two models.
