El Salvador officially listed Bitcoin as legal tender today and has purchased the first batch of 400 Bitcoins

On September 7, local time on Monday night, Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele tweeted that the Salvadoran government had purchased the first 200 bitcoins. Bukele said the country will buy "more" bitcoins.

A few hours later, Bukele added that the country had purchased another 200 bitcoins, for a total of 400. As of 8 a.m. Beijing time on the 7th, the trading price of bitcoin had exceeded $52,700.

Starting Tuesday, El Salvador will allow Bitcoin to circulate as legal tender like the U.S. dollar. According to previous reports, the Central American country of El Salvador is the first country in the world to use Bitcoin as legal tender. The Salvadoran government hopes to achieve multiple goals through this bill, including attracting investment, facilitating remittances, promoting financial inclusion, and strengthening currency diversification.
Bukele has repeatedly stated that if El Salvador receives 1% of the world's Bitcoin investment, GDP will increase by 25%. Bitcoin will likely become the fastest growing transaction method for overseas remittances, increasing the real income of informal employment and low-income people. This will help promote financial inclusion and national economic growth, providing channels for credit, savings, investment and safe transfers.
To encourage people to use Bitcoin, Bukele also announced that the government will set aside US$120 million to distribute "virtual currency red envelopes" worth US$30 to each of up to 4 million people who register to use Bitcoin wallets.
