1. The Six Palaces in Physiognomy

The six palaces of the face are divided into upper, middle and lower parts, usually called the "three palaces", but because it refers to the sides of the forehead, cheekbones, and sides of the chin, a total of six parts, it is also called the "six palaces". From the perspective of physiognomy, most important parts should have bony protrusions and be covered with flesh. This is considered a perfect match of yin and yang and is considered a good physiognomy. The face is divided into upper, middle and lower parts, which control the fortune at different stages of life. The upper stop (Fu) governs the fortune in early years; the middle stop (Fu) governs the fortune in middle age; the lower stop (Fu) governs the fortune in old age. As for the five senses, they must be coordinated with the six palaces, which is the combination of "officials" in physiognomy. Having good facial features but no house is like being an official without a residence. You have nowhere to live and are displaced. How can you be considered a high-ranking official? Similarly, if one has good six organs but not good five senses, or has a house but no identity or status, how can one manage money and property?

In real life, some people have good facial features but bad internal organs, which means they have good abilities and reputation, but their income is meager and not very generous. Some people have poor facial features but good internal organs, and have no obvious status, but they make a lot of money, just like setting up street stalls or running a small business. They live a wealthy life but have no real power.

2. Five senses in physiognomy

When it comes to the five facial features, everyone should be familiar with them, namely eyes, ears, nose, eyebrows and mouth. The eyes are the inspectors, the ears are the hearing officers, the nose is the judging officer, the eyebrows are the longevity officers, and the mouth is the payee officer. In physiognomy, the facial features are the focus and their influence is very great. The facial features must be straight, not crooked, complete in shape, and bright in color to be considered a good face. If a person has slanted eyes, he or she is hypocritical; if a person has a slanted nose, he or she has evil thoughts; if a person has a slanted mouth, he or she speaks untruths; if a person has slanted eyebrows, he or she is cold-blooded and heartless; if a person has slanted ears, he or she is stubborn and self-willed. None of these are good looks.

1. Ears

The ears should be symmetrical on both sides, not one higher than the other, and should have bright luster, which represents good health, strong learning ability, and early success. On the contrary, if the ears are crooked, unclear in outline, and dim in luster, it means poor health, hard life, few blessings, and hard work.

2. Eyebrows

The eyebrows should be smooth, fine, soft, bright, dark, complete in shape, with a gathered end, and not too close to the eyes. This is a good eyebrow shape, which represents good interpersonal relationships, a gentle and polite personality, and proper behavior. On the contrary, if the eyebrows are reversed, thick, greasy, broken in shape, and not gathered at the ends, then they are inferior eyebrows, and the person is vulgar and will have difficulty coming to the fore.

3. Eyes

Eyes are the most important of the five senses, so they are the most important. If the eyes are bright, with distinct black and white, then the mind must be pure and have talent and wisdom, so that they can show a bright and lively look, rather than a flickering and uncertain look, which shows the guilty and fearful look.

4. Nose

The nose is the center of personality. If it is straight and not crooked, it means that the person is fair and just, and he or she is also healthy and wealthy. On the contrary, it means that the person has an introverted personality, a hidden illness, and bad financial luck.

5. Mouth

The mouth should be tightened and closed, the outline should be clear, the complexion should be rosy, and the speaking voice should be clear and bright. This represents good moral character, good food, consistency in words and deeds, and being a decent person. On the contrary, if the mouth is open but not closed, the outlines are unclear, the light is dim, the speech is weak and the voice is hoarse, then the behavior is dissolute, the words are inconsistent, and the person is a villain.

Some people may think that the Four Rivers, Five Mountains and Five Sense Organs are repetitive, but in fact the focus of viewing these three parts is different. The Four Rivers usually look at a person's talent, wisdom, and innate fortune, which are more internal things; the Five Mountains look at the amount of wealth, power and status, which are the more practical financial part; and the Five Senses look at adaptability, reputation and temperament, which are the part that is manifested through appearance.
