What's wrong with my right eye?

What causes right eye twitching? As the saying goes: Left eye twitching means good fortune, right eye twitching means disaster. Is this statement true? Is there really any scientific basis for this? What exactly is going on when your right eye twitches? Now let’s take a look at what the right eye twitch can predict?

Medical version:

However, if your eyelids still keep twitching, from a medical point of view, the eyelids are medically called blepharoplasties. There are two kinds of muscles in the eyelids, one is called the orbicularis oculi muscle, and the other is called the levator palpebrae superioris muscle. Due to their constant contraction and relaxation, the eyes can open and close. However, once the nerves of these two muscles are stimulated by certain factors, they will become excited, resulting in repeated tremors or even spasms. At this time, people will feel their eyelids twitching involuntarily.

In fact, eyelid twitching can be divided into physiological and pathological types. Physiological eyelid twitching only lasts for a short time, usually just a few seconds, and the degree of twitching is not serious. This situation generally does not require special treatment. When you feel the heartbeat is more frequent, you can close your eyes and rest for a while, or gently massage around your eyes with your fingertips, or apply a warm towel to your eyes to relieve the symptoms.

Pathological eyelid twitching occurs more frequently, lasts longer, and has a larger amplitude. Some people even have the corners of their mouth or half of their face twitching. Pathological causes of eyelid twitching include overwork, stress, eye diseases and visual fatigue. A more serious case is eyelid twitching caused by facial muscle spasm, which is caused by the facial nerve that controls the movement of the eyelid muscles being compressed by blood vessels. This type of eyelid twitching is difficult to heal on its own. Over time, it can cause atrophy of the eyelid and facial muscles, and it is likely to be a sign of intracranial disease. Therefore, if your eyelids twitch for a long time and gradually get worse, you should go to the hospital for treatment in time.

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that long-term illness and overwork can damage the heart and spleen, which can cause eyelid twitching. Or it may be caused by liver and spleen blood deficiency and long-term wind, which can be treated with Guipi Decoction with modifications; if it is caused by blood deficiency and wind, the patient often beats continuously; if it is caused by deficiency of both heart and spleen, there may also be symptoms such as insomnia, forgetfulness, irritability, palpitations, loss of appetite and fatigue. If the pain affects the eyebrows, forehead, face, and corners of the mouth and cannot be controlled, it can be treated with Danggui Huoxue Yin with modifications.
