The tools needed to convert the air-cooled Antminer S5 to water-cooled are: four air-cooled S5s (one water-cooled S5 machine is equivalent to four air-cooled S5 machines), a set of Dongyuan Xinrui S5 mining machine modification kit (including chassis, fan cover, water cooling plate, screws, data cables and other accessories), electric soldering iron (for extending data cables), screwdriver pliers, etc., thermal grease (spare). First, remove the computing board and control board of the air-cooled S5 mining machine. If the silicone grease on the black chip of the computing board is uneven, you need to re-apply it evenly (you can also scrape off the silicone grease on the original air-cooling sheet and apply it, if not necessary, ignore this step). Stick a thermal paste next to the chip. After applying the thermal paste and evenly spreading the silicone grease, fix the computing board to the cold head with screws. If the screw holes on the water cooling head do not have sliding buckles, use the original screws. If there are sliding buckles, use the black self-tapping screws provided in the modification kit. Note: 1. Direction. The side with the screw holes on the side of the cold head is the bottom and needs to be fixed to the bottom plate of the chassis. The side of the computing board with the PCIe interface is the top and needs to be connected to the power cord. 2. After tightening the screws, carefully observe the gap between the computing board and the water cooling head. The tightness of each screw should be basically the same. It should not be too loose or too tight, causing some parts of the computing board to warp up, affecting the thermal conductivity.
Fix all computing boards on the water cooling head in the same way. Here we only take the modification of two air-cooled S5 as an example. Then install the control board. Now the firmware has been upgraded, one control board is enough to support four computing boards, but considering that some users still use the previous control board, the chassis design still reserves space for four control boards. Generally, a water-cooled S5 only needs two control boards.
Then cut a piece of transparent tube of appropriate length, connect the two cold heads, and fix them with spring clips. Then fix the cold heads on the bottom plate of the chassis.
Put on the back cover and secure it with screws.
Similarly, install the front cover of the chassis.
Then install the fan cover, and the chassis installation is complete. Next, extend the data cable. A water-cooled S5 mining machine requires 8 data cables, 2 of which can use the original length of the data cable (about 8cm), and the remaining six need to be extended to 16cm by the user. Cut the data cable and tear some of it for easy welding.
Cut the provided heat shrink tube into small sections of about 2 cm, put it on the data cable, and then weld the original data cable to the standard data cable.
After welding, put the heat shrink tube in the appropriate position, and then shrink the heat shrink tube by heating (just use a lighter to heat it). This is the extended data cable.
We can also provide users with ready-made data cables for a fee. Users need to specify in detail whether they need the new version (nine-wire version) or the old version (eight-wire version). The price can be inquired from our sales staff.
Connect the data cable and power cable between the control board and the computing board, and then you can test the operation. Connect the water cooling kit (it is recommended to use two sets of Dongyuan SC-BC1 kits for one water-cooled S5 machine, and fans need to be installed on both sides of the heat exchanger ), connect the computer power supply and network cable, and let the machine run for a while to observe whether the temperature, computing power and other indicators are normal.
If it is normal, cover the upper cover of the case and the whole modification process is over. Regarding the power supply of the water cooling kit, each control board has two small 3P interfaces, and each SC-BC1 kit is also equipped with a fan extension cable. The two fan cables on the mining machine and the fan extension cable in the kit can be plugged into the control board for power.
