One of the operators of bitcoin exchange Coin.mx is petitioning U.S. attorneys general to investigate the matter, according to recent court documents.
Assistant U.S. Attorney General Eun Young Choi last week asked the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York to grant a 30-day extension of proceedings so that defendant Anthony Murgio can "further discuss the case with his attorney."
Murgio was one of two employees of the Coin.mx exchange who were arrested earlier this summer on charges of money laundering and operating an illegal money services business in Florida.
The court granted a continuation of the proceedings until October 9.
Murgio is also suspected of involvement in last year's cyberattack on JPMorgan Chase, which resulted in the loss of personal information of tens of millions of customer accounts, according to Bloomberg.
Murgio, who posted $100,000 bail last month, has been cooperative in his plea, according to court documents. |
