Imperial College London opens cryptocurrency research center

Imperial College London has established a research center specifically for blockchain initiatives.

The news was announced in the university’s summer newsletter, which was launched at Imperial College with the aim of exploring bitcoin and blockchain.

The university was established in 1907 and is considered one of the top research institutes in the world.

The announcement explained:

“ Following the enthusiastic response from staff and students, the center will now adjust its research grants towards the design and engineering improvements that underpin blockchain technology protocols. It will also adjust its application-based funding, which is used to develop blockchain-based solutions across a variety of sectors. ”

The launch of the Imperial College research centre reflects the growing interest in technology among academic institutions.

Professor William Knottenbelt from the university's School of Computer Science will serve as the research centre's first director.

He said: " We intend to focus on two areas: first, research on protocol design and engineering improvements to strengthen blockchain technology; second, exploring new blockchain-based applications across multiple fields. We expect that the activities of this new research center will greatly broaden our collaboration between industry and academia. "
