USAA to Provide Bitcoin Balance Checking Service for Coinbase Users

USAA, a financial institution in San Antonio, Texas, that serves active or retired military personnel, has launched a pilot project that allows Coinbase users to check the Bitcoin balance in their Coinbase accounts through their USAA accounts.

However, this is just a pilot service of USAA, and it will select a certain number of users to experience this service, but its pilot action also shows that the company that provides insurance services to American soldiers is exploring users who are interested in Bitcoin among its user base. In an interview with Coindesk, USAA briefly described their pilot project: currently they only provide a monthly viewing service for viewing account Bitcoins, and do not provide trading services for the time being. Their purpose is to study this technology step by step.

USAA did not disclose the exact number of people who will experience the pilot service, but said it is selecting users who have expressed interest in digital currencies in the past. USAA previously offered the pilot service to its employees and some selected testers in September, and will fully launch the pilot service this week.

Coinbase shared a GIF demonstration on its official blog to show people how to operate USAA’s pilot service:

USAA is one of Coinbase’s investors. It participated in Coinbase’s   USAA raised $75 million in Series C funding. At the time, USAA told CoinDesk that “many of its customers are more interested in Bitcoin than the general consumer.”

The pilot initiative shows that USAA is ready to capitalize on its customers’ interest in Bitcoin and leverage its partnership with Coinbase to begin further research into Bitcoin and blockchain technology.
