Bitcoin social network ZapChain receives $350,000 in angel funding

Bitcoin social media platform ZapChain has raised $350,000 in seed funding, and today announced its partnership with Coinbase to launch a new digital goods program.

It is reported that the funds come from DFJ partner Tim Draper, Boost VC founder and CEO Adam Draper and the Boost Bitcoin Fund.

ZapChain COO Dan Cawrey admitted that the funding is being used to expand the reach of content creators and digital community members.

“I invested in ZapChain because the company is building one of the best applications of Bitcoin,” Tim Draper said in a statement. “I’m excited to see how blockchain can make micropayments easy for journalists and other media producers without the friction of banks.”

The site’s partnership with Coinbase was announced today, and will allow users to buy and sell bitcoin through ZapChain in order to purchase digital goods on the platform. Recording artist Talib Kweli will also be selling his latest album, Indie 500, through ZapChain.

In the statement, Kweli suggested that the technology behind Bitcoin could help make music more accessible and open up new markets for musicians.

In addition, ZapChain also launched a new digital community creation tool today, which allows users to use Bitcoin to incentivize the community, meaning that users who publish content, initiate discussions, or sell products or services can use Bitcoin micropayments.
