Bitcoin exchange operator Murgio denies money laundering allegations

According to CoinDesk on November 19 , Anthony Murgio, the former operator of the Bitcoin trading platform Coin.mx, denied involvement in money laundering.

Murgio also denied the court's allegations that he operated a bitcoin trading platform and engaged in and conducted cyber fraud, according to Bloomberg .

Murgio was accused of engaging in money laundering and intentionally concealing a suspicious activity report, according to a previous CoinDesk report. He and Yuri Lebedev were arrested in July and accused of using Coin.mx to fund a series of cybercrime schemes.

He and Yuri Lebedev were charged with conspiracy to carry on and operate an unlicensed money-changing business.

Earlier this month, U.S. prosecutors used new evidence to indict Murgio . Court documents indicted three other people named: Gery Shalon, Joshua Aaron and Ziv Orenstein . They were accused of participating in money laundering, hacking and fraud.

According to US law, Coin.mx has become a tool for illegal fundraising.

In addition, the three had already carried out a cyber-enabled digital crime campaign dating back to 2012 , which included the cyberattack on JPMorgan Chase last year.

Murgio is expected to appear in court on December 31 , 2016 .
