The Commonwealth Bank of Australia will hold a two-day blockchain conference in Sydney next month in an attempt to explore the potential behind the technology. According to Computerworld, the bank recently formed a partnership with distributed ledger startup R3CEV to test Ripple technology — and has teamed up with Coala, a research organization that has organized a number of international blockchain events. David Whiteing, CIO of the Commonwealth Bank, said:
The conference will look to explore blockchain technology, including regulatory issues and its potential in China. Speakers include Joi Ito, director of the MIT Media Lab, who will discuss the role universities should play in promoting innovation, and Lawrence Lessig, Roy L. Furman Professor of Law at Harvard Law School. It was recently reported that the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) confirmed that it is investigating the country’s banks’ sudden closure of accounts of various Bitcoin-related businesses.
