Bitnation, a decentralized governance project that aims to provide blockchain identities and bitcoin debit cards to refugees, has signed an agreement with Estonia to provide notary services for the e-Residents program. Starting from December 1, 2015, blockchain notarization will serve all e-residents, no matter where they live or do business, and they can enjoy marriage certificates, birth certificates, business contracts and other services on the blockchain. The blockchain is a public record book that is stored in tens of millions of computers around the world. The reproducibility and immutability of public notarization make it more secure than the traditional notarization methods currently used by various countries.
The Estonian e-Residency program is perhaps the most advanced technology on the planet. This agreement marks a further step towards large-scale decentralization. Bitnation was created to address residency and nationality, while Bitcoin is about currency. Bitnation CEO and founder Susanne Templehof said that in the current refugee crisis, the project aims to eliminate our most sinful legacy - national borders.
She wrote in an email to IBTimes: “We have an agreement with Estonia, and the ultimate goal is to get sovereign status for Bitnation, and then we will set a precedent for open source programs that can be considered sovereign jurisdictions.” Bitnation, as the world's first virtual country based on blockchain, provides "DIY management services", emergency response and blockchain international identity to refugees, and has attracted the attention of the international community. The virtual country also provides groundbreaking marriage certificates, land deeds, birth certificates, etc.
On marriage, Templehof pointed out that many countries, for example, make homosexuality illegal: “But blockchain doesn’t give a f*ck about that.” The Estonian e-Residency initiative helps anyone around the world gain access to a secure, trusted online identity, and the Estonian government already offers this service to its 1.3 million residents. Kaspar Korjus, project director of the Estonian e-Residency project, said: "In Estonia, we believe that everyone should be free to choose the digital, public services that are best for them, regardless of where they were born. We are in a great era where traditional and virtual states compete and cooperate with each other in the international market to provide the best government services to their citizens." If a couple gets married at a public notary office, it does not mean that they are married under the Estonian judicial system, or registered under the judicial system of another country, but that they are registered under the "blockchain jurisdiction". Blockchain technology provides a globally legally binding proof for banking and corporate contracts with complete contractuality. This technology is fast, cheap, and protects the rights and interests of entrepreneurs and residents around the world. Tempelhof said she believes the Estonian government understands the dynamics of the globalization era better than any other country. He added: “I am very happy to be part of the Estonian e-Residency project, establishing a standard model that can compete with government services on the international market, and point the way for others to self-determine and follow in Bitnation’s footsteps towards sovereignty.” |
