Bitso CEO on Bitcoin's growth in Mexico

Bitso CEO on Bitcoin's growth in Mexico

LaBITconf, the annual Latin American Bitcoin conference, will be held on December 4th and 5th in Mexico City, the capital of Mexico. It is a very important source of information for Bitcoin enthusiasts and entrepreneurs in Latin America and beyond.

乔斯·罗德里格斯, executive director of the LaBitConf Mexico organizing committee, a key member of the Mexican Bitcoin community and vice president of Bitso, and巴勃罗·冈萨雷斯, CEO of Bitso, recently spoke to Cointelegraph about the development of the Bitcoin market in Mexico.

CT: Are there any difficulties in promoting Bitcoin and blockchain technology in Mexico? What are the specific difficulties?

Jose Rodriguez (JR):

The first barrier is language. Although many Mexicans speak English, most do not, and much of the relevant information, meetings, news, and documents are almost all in English. Fortunately, many news websites have Spanish versions in the past year. In addition, there is a problem we usually face - the general lack of trust in Bitcoin, and negative news reports have increased the negative image of Bitcoin in people's minds. For new users, there are barriers in terms of technology, entry, and funds, so Bitcoin must be improved to be more friendly to new users.

CT: What is the Mexican government's attitude towards Bitcoin and blockchain? Do local banks support innovative technologies like Bitcoin?

Pablo Gonzalez (PG):

It depends on the bank. Some banks are very friendly to Bitcoin, some are not. When it comes to the compliance department, it is another matter. They will not approve Bitcoin-related activities until Bitcoin is clearly regulated.

Mexico has several very innovative and forward-looking banks that are actively learning about Bitcoin and blockchain technology and exploring related applications. However, they are still constrained by the inherent system. Most of the innovation in Mexico will happen outside the banking system.

CT: Have you established any connections with markets in other countries?

JR:

We are always trying to establish cooperation and exchange experiences and ideas with companies in other countries. The most interesting market for our business is Mexico, which has many commercial relations with the United States. There are huge opportunities in the field of remittances and international payments, and we are using Bitcoin technology to create more and better options for people in remittances and payments.

CT: What are Bitso’s future development plans?

Jose Rodriguez:

We have established a partnership with BitPay, which will conduct Bitcoin trading business in Mexico, and we will work together to develop the local market.
