Blockchain distributed ledger technology seems to be very useful for the art industry, as it can help solve the main problem in the field - intellectual property registration. This is easy, and the blockchain system claims to make the property rights of works of art very difficult to forge. Perhaps this is why the relationship between art projects and Bitcoin and blockchain is very close in 2015. CoinTelegraph contacted Dr. Masha McConaghy, co-founder of Berlin-based art startup Ascribe, who outlined the most interesting art projects using blockchain technology in 2015 and said that 2016 will be an interesting year in her opinion, adding:
Left GalleryThis is a digital exhibition hall founded by Harm van den Dorpel, an artist from Berlin, the Netherlands. This project can help artists sell their works in the form of "download objects". Left Gallery uses Bitcoin as a payment method. IkonoTVIkonoTV is the first high-definition art television broadcast channel. The channel has collaborated with more than 1,000 artists. IkonoTV uses blockchain technology, which is suitable for encrypted contracts and can always make copyright clear. The channel has an audience of more than 300 million people. CointemporaryCointemporary is an online platform for displaying and selling artworks. On the platform, a single artwork is on sale for 10 days, during which it is sold at a fixed Bitcoin price. When the artwork is sold or the 10-day selling period has passed, another artwork is displayed on the platform. Cointemporary was co-founded by two Viennese artists Valentin Ruhry and Andy Boot. N3uroN3uro is a marketplace for selling ideas. The platform literally captures people’s brainwaves and sells limited digital copies of these brainwave recordings. The official N3uro website states: “These limited digital copies are secured through a combination of copyright and contract law, with the Bitcoin blockchain acting as a registration of ownership.” PlantoidPlantoid is a blockchain robot that uses Bitcoin donations to replicate itself. It hires artists to replicate and improve it. Basically, it’s a DAO that straddles the electronic and physical worlds and raises questions about copyright and ownership. It’s a pretty interesting invention that makes art “alive, capable of self-replication and creation.” Upcoming Blockchain ProjectsIn 2016, the art industry will also see several new projects that will use blockchain and Bitcoin. 23vivi, an online marketplace for rare artworks, is scheduled to launch in the first quarter of 2016. ArtCity will also be relaunched, using blockchain technology to protect digital artworks, and the Lumen Art Prize is also planning to launch its own digital art marketplace. Do you think blockchain technology will be widely adopted by the art industry in 2016?
