A beverage vending machine with instant Dash payments

Dash (DASH) has always been proud of its "InstantX" feature, but is there any way to show people the advantages of instant payment? Two Dash enthusiasts came up with an interesting idea. Dustin Eward and Jeremy Maus co-invented a Dash soda vending machine named "Dash N' Drink" in the hope that people can experience the benefits of Dash instant payment. The instant transaction function ensures that the transaction is completed instantly, without waiting for block confirmation, compared to Bitcoin transactions that have to wait for six block confirmations.

The two recently spoke to Bitcoin.com about the machine in detail.

Bitcoin.com (BC): How did you come up with the idea to invent this machine?

Eward/Maus (E/M):

The idea originated from a conversation between the two of us on the Dashtalk forum, during which we found that we were both interested in building a POS (point of sale) project based on Dash Instant Payment because we wanted to demonstrate the advantages of Dash Instant Payment. Then we needed a closed development platform that would not be interfered with by the existing POS business system. So a soda vending machine came to our mind, and we decided to choose it as a proof of concept for Dash Instant Payment and a small step in the future development plan.

BC: Is there any sponsorship?

E/M:

Yes, we submitted our idea as a proposal to the Dash budget system for the Dash community to vote on, and within a week, our proposal received enough votes to receive funding directly from the Dash blockchain.

BC: How is Dash N' Drink different from any other crypto POS machine?

E/M:

Dash N' Drink does not rely on zero confirmation or accepting payments before the blockchain confirms the transaction. It also does not wait for block confirmations, which can take several minutes. The machine uses Dash's instant payment technology to ensure that transactions are completed instantly without waiting for block confirmations.

Additionally, the transaction fee for buying drinks from Dash N' Drink is lower than other crypto POS, at just 3 cents per instant transaction. This fee will be eliminated for most transactions after the release of Dash Evolution.

BC: How does InstantX instant payment work?

E/M:

InstantX uses Dash's secondary masternode network to lock transactions. Locking across the entire network prevents double spending and makes transactions irreversible, similar to how they are processed on the blockchain. We have tested this machine and it took less than a second. This technology will provide merchants with a clear advantage over other payment methods, as it does not have to rely on third-party processors.

BC: Do you have any plans on how you will present it at the Miami conference?

E/M:

We plan to demonstrate how the InstantX soda machine facilitates real-time and secure transactions of digital currencies. Users use their phone to scan a QR code to have the machine accept instant payments in Dash. At the show, we will have a paper wallet with Dash. For the show, we have also designed a custom Android phone app that can quickly import Dash from the paper wallet and spend it using the InstantX feature. After installing the app, users scan the QR code and can buy a drink from the machine in less than a second. We also plan to demonstrate remote InstantX purchases, i.e. when the user is physically in another location.

BC: What are your plans for the machine after the Miami conference?

E/M:

The machine will be used primarily in retail businesses. We plan to work with more than just specific vendors, hoping to place the machine in more strategic locations. In the future, we plan to open source the code for Dash N' Drink InstantX and further develop other projects related to POS technology for retailers.
