Bitcoin's first comic book "Searching for Satoshi" will be published in China and made into a movie

The Bitcoin comic "Hunt For Satoshi Nakamoto" (translated name: Finding Satoshi Nakamoto) was completed in October 2014. It is the world's first Bitcoin-themed comic and has been sold overseas. The author Alex Preukschat is a German-Spanish mixed-race. He and his team created the first Bitcoin comic. The purpose of creating Bitcoin comics is to make it easier for more people to understand Bitcoin in a visual way, and to explain important concepts about Bitcoin in the form of comics. UncleDoge and Alex met at the end of 2014 and have been in contact ever since. Now they have become friends. He has always planned to publish "Finding Satoshi Nakamoto" in mainland China. Today (Friday, January 22, 2016), UncleDoge interviewed this talented Spaniard on behalf of Dogecoin Chinese Information Network (MYdoge.org) via Skype and Email!

UncleDoge: Alex, please introduce yourself, your country, your work and the team behind this comic!

Alex: Hello, Roy, it's a pleasure to be interviewed by you! I am of German and Spanish descent, and have lived in many countries, including Hangzhou, China, where I lived for two years ten years ago. I like China very much! Now I am a freelancer, providing consulting services to Bitcoin companies in the name of a Bitcoin consultant! I also run a media website called www.oroyfinanzas.com, which publishes information about precious metals and Bitcoin.

There are three of us in our team. Josep Busquet and I wrote the script for this comic, and José Ángel García Ares did all the illustrations. I met Ricardo, a Spanish comic book publisher, two years ago at the Angoulême International Comics Festival in France. In October 2013, I presented my idea for a comic book about Bitcoin to him. Fortunately, Ricardo immediately liked the philosophy behind Bitcoin and introduced Josep to me, hoping that we could write the script together. Josep then brought in José Ángel, a well-known script writer and illustrator in Europe. My job was to make sure all the basic elements of Bitcoin were covered, and to introduce some interesting anecdotes about cryptography and cryptocurrency in the comic book. José Ángel did an amazing job, and his skills in illustration and character creation are simply amazing. When this comic book was released, Ricardo made a decision to accept Bitcoin payments, and made all his other online comic book sales accept Bitcoin payments as well.

UncleDoge: Well, a great team! Alex, can you tell us when you first came into contact with Bitcoin? What was your first impression of Bitcoin? And what do you think about the future of Bitcoin?

Alex: I first learned about Bitcoin in April 2011, when I met Amir Taaki (a famous early Bitcoin developer) at a payment conference and watched a Bitcoin video. Afterwards, I opened an account at Mt. Gox and deposited 50 Euros into it (the total value of the coins I bought at that time should be $15,000 based on the current price. When Mt. Gox had problems, my money disappeared). I forgot about it afterwards until the beginning of 2013, when I embraced Bitcoin again and have been sticking to it until now.

I think the future of Bitcoin is still uncertain, just like the future of the world is also very uncertain! But Bitcoin is a very good technology, and I think it will become a technology that can change the world like the Internet in the near future.

UncleDoge: Well, I agree with you. Can you tell me about the development of Bitcoin in your hometown?

Alex: In Europe, almost all Bitcoin activity is in London and the Netherlands, but there are also some very interesting communities in Germany and Sweden. In Spain, the Bitcoin community is small, but very active and positive in the Bitcoin circle.

UncleDoge: So that's how it is! Alex, besides Bitcoin, what other competing coins do you like, such as Dogecoin and Ethereum? What do you think?

Alex: Haha, I really like the spirit behind Dogecoin, and Dogecoin is also very interesting! Although Bitcoin is my favorite, I think it is very important to explore and practice other competing coins so that Bitcoin can learn some good things from them.

UncleDoge: Haha, I am the founder of the Dogecoin Foundation of China, and Dogecoin is my favorite! A year ago you told me that you had a plan to publish this Bitcoin comic book in China. What kind of idea was that?

Alex: China is undoubtedly a leading country in Bitcoin mining, and the Chinese are very open to new things. My dream is to really help people all over the world discover Bitcoin, and China is one of the key countries. I still remember clearly what it was like living there when I first traveled there.

UncleDoge: This is a very meaningful dream! Maybe you can make this comic into a movie. I think there must be a lot of people in China who are interested in this movie!

Alex: I am so happy when I hear the readers' feedback on this comic! Because of it, I have a great opportunity to meet wonderful people all over the world. The real concept of Bitcoin is that we are all Satoshi Nakamoto, and this is the message we want to convey!

UncleDoge: What is your understanding of the relationship between Bitcoin and blockchain? Some people say that Bitcoin will die, but blockchain can survive. Do you agree?

Alex: I think blockchain technology and Bitcoin are two very different things. Bitcoin is a brand new technological revolution and the real essence of computer science. Blockchain, as I understand it, will probably exist in the next 20 years. But now, some large financial institutions use blockchain to upgrade their IT structure, which seems to have become a trend. Bitcoin has created political ideas, and of course, the economic environment has helped a lot.

UncleDoge: Thank you for sharing! Finally, the Chinese New Year of the Monkey is coming soon, so let me say a few words to our readers!

Alex: Xin Nian Kuai Le (Alex’s original text)! I still remember the New Year and the fireworks in Hangzhou. It was an unforgettable experience!

Interview Postscript:

The comic book "Searching for Satoshi" has successfully raised 119% of the crowdfunding target of 42 BTC on the Bitcoin crowdfunding platform Swarm, and has received support from major Bitcoin companies such as Coinbase, BTCChina and Bitstamp, as well as strong support from individuals such as Bitcoin kernel developer Gavin Andresen (Chief Scientist of the Bitcoin Foundation). The original version of "Searching for Satoshi" is in Spanish, and has now been translated into English and Polish, and will be translated into more languages in succession. The Chinese translation is in the works. The creator uses this story to commemorate the late cryptography master Hal Finney, the first person to receive Bitcoin transmissions, and uses this comic to pay tribute to this Bitcoin pioneer! Hal Finney had to quit his beloved job because of ALS, and at almost the same time, Satoshi Nakamoto also stopped communicating with the outside world.

Alex and UncleDoge are planning to publish the first Bitcoin comic book "Searching for Satoshi Nakamoto" in mainland China, and plan to make it into a movie! If it can be done, it will definitely have a great role in promoting the mainstream population in China to understand Bitcoin! Especially for the younger generation in China, this is a very good way to understand Bitcoin, a revolutionary technology of the times.
