Cool! 7 decentralized applications based on Ethereum

We all know that companies and various services are controlled by a unified central organization. Imagine if this is not the case? Can we control it ourselves? This involves a concept called "decentralized application" (or "DAPP" for short). This concept is a relatively new concept proposed by the blockchain community. With the help of self-executing smart contracts, people can decentralize all centralized services today and enjoy more autonomy.

In a way, Bitcoin can be said to be the first DAPP to emerge, as it is completely open source, provides rewards to contributors, is not controlled by a central authority, and uses blockchain as the underlying technology.

Now, a new generation of innovators is seeking to apply these principles to a variety of online services that they believe can be built on the DAPP model.

Although this is a new concept and a new field, we still see various DAPPs emerging, from concepts to prototypes to functional platforms.

Ethereum's decentralized blockchain and its native digital currency Ether may be the most widely used tools for DAPP construction, because its network is specifically designed for building DAPPs. It is developed by the Ethereum Foundation and regularly holds "hackathon" events to promote the establishment of more new DAPPs.

What can we do with DAPP? To illustrate this problem, we have selected 7 interesting DAPP projects from the many DAPPs built on the Ethereum blockchain as examples.

Vevue: Micro-shooting

The goal of the Vevue project is to "bring Google Street View to life" by allowing people to shoot 30-second short videos to share the things they appreciate, such as beautiful scenery and delicious food, with people around the world.

Users only need a smartphone and answer requests uploaded by people nearby, and they can earn Bitcoin and Vevue’s equity tokens in selected areas.

In addition, with the help of a Google Chrome extension, users can see the scenes provided by Vevues for free when they use Google Maps to search for local things.

The "Shoot Videos, Earn Bitcoin" app is already available for download on the Google Play Store, but the project is still under development and does not currently reward users.

Etheria: A Virtual World

Etheria is an app similar to Minecraft, where players can create their own blocks and build things.

Currently, all virtual worlds are controlled by a physical organization, while Etheria is completely controlled by participants in the Ethereum network.

This means that Etheria is "censorship-resistant" and cannot be banned by the government, deleted by developers or even players themselves. As long as Ethereum exists, it exists.

KYC-Chain: Identity Verification

In this increasingly digital age, the growing risk of financial crime through fraud and identity theft highlights the urgent need for a means to keep our personal identities secure.

One application that aims to do this is KYC-Chain. The service, which is currently under construction, leverages existing know-your-customer (KYC) regulations to provide a “simple and convenient” identity verification process.

The platform’s “identity wallet” will allow users to share necessary information.

KYC-Chain uses Ethereum technology and uses "trusted gatekeepers" (any individual or legal entity such as lawyers, notaries, etc. who is authorized by law to verify KYC documents).

A "trusted gatekeeper" can use the KYC-Chain platform to individually view and verify the user's ID. The document will be stored in a distributed database system for the "trusted gatekeeper" or user to retrieve, proving that the ID is authentic.

4G Capital: Helping small businesses

4G Capital, which enables small businesses in Africa to instantly qualify for credit, has developed a DAPP that uses the concept of smart contracts.

Donors will be able to use the DHPP to provide financial support to small businesses in Kenya using digital currency. The donated funds are converted into fiat currency and sent to small businesses through 4G Capital’s trading system.

Its goal is to gather the power of ordinary people to provide support for individuals, businesses and markets.

In addition to providing 100% unsecured debt funding to regular individual market traders, the project also provides micro-consulting and business training services to help customers improve their technical level and business knowledge.

EthTweet: Weibo

Eth-Tweet is a decentralized microblogging service running on the Ethereum blockchain. It provides Twitter-like functionality and supports sending messages of up to 160 characters. Its decentralized nature means that once a message is published, only the publisher has the right to delete it.

Additionally, accounts can receive Ether donations as an incentive for content providers on the platform.

Ampliative Art: Helping Artists

Ampliative Art aims to help artists develop their careers through social platforms and is currently under development.

Artists will be able to create galleries of their own works, display their works for free, and share or exchange suggestions through messages and comments. Both users and artists can accept tips and donations. The more a user contributes to the community, the more the community gives back to him.

All revenue earned by Ampliative Art will be distributed based on the user's "reputation".

As a DAPP, Ampliative Art will be a fully transparent platform through which users can interact, earn rewards, and participate in the decision-making process.

WeiFund: Crowdfunding

WeiFund uses Web 3.0-based technology and Ethereum technology to provide users with crowdfunding solutions.

WeiFund is one of many Web 3.0-based crowdfunding platforms that it is bringing to the forefront by providing a “world-class open-source modular and extensible” crowdfunding utility that is accessible to everyone, the project’s developers said. All key aspects of the platform are fully decentralized.

To use WeiFund, users first open WeiFund on a Web 3.0-based browser (such as Ethereum's Mist), and then they can start contributing, browsing, and managing crowdfunding campaigns.

WeiFund’s interface and user experience are very similar to regular crowdfunding platforms like Kickstarter or GoFundMe, however, all funds raised on the WeiFund platform will be accounted for using Ethereum’s Ether.

Unlike traditional crowdfunding service platforms such as Kickstarter, WeiFund uses smart contract technology, which means that all donation behaviors will become agreements, providing "wider possibilities" for crowdfunding.

In addition, Web 3.0-based browsers will come with their own wallet systems, ensuring that payments on WeiFund are not only secure but also auditable.
