Hyperledger Technical Committee Members Revealed for the First Time

The Hyperledger project is an ambitious attempt to unite giant companies to create a successful open source blockchain project.

When the Linux Foundation announced it was taking on the project in December, it was called the Open Ledger Project. It was later renamed Hyperledger and has since gained support from 30 major companies, including Cisco, Intel, JPMorgan Chase, the London Stock Exchange and Wells Fargo.

As described on the Hyperledger official website, the goal of this project is to develop a cross-industry open standard and open source code development library that allows companies to create customized distributed ledger solutions to promote the application of blockchain technology in business.

Jerry Cuomo, vice president of blockchain technology at IBM and a participant in the initiative, told CoinDesk in February:

“We redesigned a blockchain structure. Instead of creating a consortium in certain industries, our mission is to build a blockchain for business.”

To achieve this goal, the Hyperledger Project recently formed a Technical Steering Committee (TSC), which is currently led by Chris Ferris, CTO of IBM Open Cloud.

Objectives of the Committee

According to a March 10 statement from the steering committee, the organization is already taking preparatory steps to ensure that future work can run smoothly.

A meeting is scheduled to be held in Brooklyn, New York from March 22nd to March 25th, where we will see specific topics such as project lifecycle and production code proposed for members.

Additionally, the group is now working on a white paper for the project, following a series of informal briefings from developers at Intel and JPMorgan Chase, among others, on blockchain-based projects.

So, who are the big names involved in the Hyperledger Technical Steering Committee? Here is a full list of the team members:

Ferris, CTO of IBM Open Cloud, is a distinguished engineer who has been involved in distributed systems architecture, design and engineering for more than 36 years and has been actively involved in the development of open standards and open source projects since 1999.

Viale is the general manager of Accenture Technology Labs Europe. He leads the company’s European research and development efforts, focusing on emerging technology applications in the identity and financial services industries. Viale is also the head of Accenture’s blockchain technology research and development.

Voell has been an executive director at JPMorgan Chase for 21 years and previously served as a vice president at Lehman Brothers. He recently announced JPMorgan Chase's latest 'Juno' blockchain project on its behalf. Voell is also the executive editor of the Hyperledger white paper.

Richard Brown is the Chief Technology Officer at R3, a startup that has brought together 42 global banks to provide shared ledger technology for financial markets. He previously worked as an executive architect for banking innovation at IBM, where he co-wrote IBM's first technical paper on Bitcoin, and his work has been cited by other influential institutions such as the Bank of England.

Oshima is a member of the Hitachi Group Open Source Technology Lab. In addition, he is the head of the Linux Technology Center Hitachi R&D Group and the head of the company's blockchain and distributed ledger technology research team. He is particularly interested in the application of distributed ledger technology in supply chain and enterprise asset management.

Bowman is a principal engineer at Intel Labs, where he leads the company’s distributed ledger research group. With more than 20 years of experience in large-scale database and distributed systems research, he is now focused on improving the security, scalability, and privacy of distributed ledgers.

Teis is a senior vice president at Deutsche Börse Group, a stock exchange operator that has been developing several proofs of concept for blockchain technology. He previously managed risk at McKinsey & Company.

Taniuchi is responsible for developing new cloud products and services at Fujitsu. In his previous company, he was responsible for the development of distribution market projects.

Liberman is the director of software engineering at CME Group’s Technology Lab, where he leads a distributed ledger initiative.

Tamashi is the Chief Ledger Architect at Digital Asset. He was a Vice President at Deutsche Bank for over 10 years and is the founder and CEO of Bits of Proof. In addition, Tamashi also founded the Bitcoin mining control software CoinTerra (no longer in existence).

Pardha Vishnumolakala is the system director at DTCC, responsible for managing DTCC's blockchain R&D program. He focuses on how to best use blockchain emerging technology solutions to reduce system costs and risks. He has more than 20 years of experience in the architecture, design and development of distributed software systems.
