USAA launches Bitcoin integration pilot program, open to all employees

USAA has announced that it is expanding its Bitcoin integration, allowing all account holders to link to their Coinbase accounts and view their Coinbase account balances directly from the USAA website.

USAA launched a pilot program for bitcoin integration with Coinbase in November last year.

According to a news release from USAA, USAA said last year's pilot project was successful and revealed that corresponding mobile app support may be launched this month.

In a statement, Jon Cholak, lead investment partner for USAA Corporate Development, said he was supportive of the broader deployment of the technology and that USAA has been an early supporter of bitcoin technology.

“Traditionally, USAA has been very good at identifying emerging technology trends, and we are now developing technology at the forefront of the financial services industry.”

USAA also participated in Coinbase's record-breaking $75 million Series C financing in early 2015.

USAA conducted a Bitcoin integration pilot and chose to further expand the scope of the pilot because many of its customers are active Bitcoin users, which is also a key reason for its investment in Coinbase.

USAA was founded in 1922 and is a diversified financial services group that provides services to Texas regulators, banks and their subsidiaries, family investment and insurance services, and the U.S. military. It was named one of the 50 most admired companies in the world by Fortune in 2015.
