IEEE Cloud Computing Conference Blockchain Technology Seminar

The world’s largest and oldest organization of computing experts will hold a major annual conference to discuss the future of mobile cloud computing, with blockchain technology being one of the focuses.

The high-profile event, hosted by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), which has 421,000 members in 160 countries, could help accelerate blockchain adoption in the engineering field.

The four-day conference, which opened on Tuesday at the 702-year-old Exeter College at Oxford University, includes five blockchain workshops. The 2016 IEEE Mobile Cloud Conference is the fourth annual conference dedicated to mobile cloud computing services and engineering technologies.

Wei-Tek Tsai, professor at Arizona State University's School of Computing, Informatics, and Decision Systems Engineering, will speak at the conference about the future of blockchain technology.

Computing technology shift

Since this is the first IEEE conference to focus closely on blockchain technology, it is not surprising that it appears in the cloud computing conference.

In 2016, people will stop discussing Bitcoin as a decentralized ledger and start discussing its database function. Last month, IBM announced plans to launch a series of blockchain-related activities, which caused a huge response in the blockchain technology field.

And Microsoft released a blockchain-as-a-service agreement in November to describe its sandbox environment, in which developers can conduct simulation experiments using the company's Azure cloud platform tools.

Companies such as ConsenSys, Augur, BitShares and Slock.it also participated in the meeting.
