Travel startup AirBnb has confirmed it has acquired a number of employees from bitcoin tipping service ChangeTip. AirBnb has hired an undisclosed number of employees from ChangeCoin, which operates a social media tipping service, including the company’s co-founder and CEO Nick Sullivan, according to a report. ChangeTip’s codebase and the developers working on the bitcoin project were not adopted, although investors in the company believe the project will continue under new leadership. The hiring is said to be one of a series of moves to try to sell the company. Nathan Blecharczyk A few weeks ago, AirBnb co-founder and CTO Nathan Blecharczyk told the media that the company has been looking at blockchain technology, hoping to find applications for the technology in reputation and identity authentication. The hiring news comes a year after ChangeTip raised $3.5 million in seed funding for its micropayments service, which is based on social media platforms such as Reddit and Twitter. AirBnb declined to comment further. |
