CoinDesk is excited to announce that Deloitte, Microsoft, IBM, ConsenSys, Tierion and ether.camp have teamed up to invest in the “Building Blockchain” hackathon at the Consensus 2016 conference, which will take place April 30-May 1 at the Microsoft Technology Center in Times Square.

The investors represent all blockchain technology providers, including representatives from the Bitcoin, Ethereum and Hyperledger projects, and are committed to fostering collaborative innovation.

Each investor brought their expertise to the hackathon participants by having their representatives serve as on-site mentors. The mentors worked with teams to demonstrate how to quickly deploy working prototypes using their respective software development tools (SDKs), and each team’s performance was judged at the end of the session.

Here’s what investors had to say about their involvement:

Eric Piscini

Eric Piscini, chief consulting officer at Deloitte, said:

“This hackathon represents our vision for making blockchain technology a reality. At Deloitte we aim to achieve innovative and disruptive results while also being pragmatic, and we wish all the teams good luck.”

Joseph Lubin

ConsenSys founder Joseph Lubin said:

“Consensus 2016 is the preeminent annual event on the blockchain calendar. We are very excited to be attending the Consensus 2016 Hackathon as both an exhibitor and sponsor.”

Roman Mandeleil

Roman Mandeleil, CEO and founder of ether.camp, said:

“Our team is very excited to sponsor the Consensus Hackathon. We are also very happy that our software development tools are effective against hackers, thus increasing our chances of winning this competition.”

Jerry Cuomo

Jerry Cuomo, Vice President of Blockchain Technologies at IBM, said:

“IBM is excited to sponsor the ‘Build the Blockchain’ hackathon, where developers are challenged to transform current transaction networks and deliver real-time business value by building blockchain-based applications. We look forward to participating in this team and seeing the transformative solutions built using Hyperledger on the IBM Cloud.”

Wayne Vaughan

Wayne Vaughan, CEO of Tierion, said:

“Winning the 2015 Consensus Hackathon was a breakthrough moment for Tierion. I’m very excited to be returning as a judge this year and very proud to be sponsoring this event. Last year’s competition was intense. We can’t wait to see what this year’s participants come up with.”

CoinDesk is accepting up to 150 participants for the hackathon, dividing qualified developers into four groups.

Teams will compete for a $5,000 grand prize, with additional prizes for hackathon sponsors. The deadline to submit an application is Friday, April 22.
