Bitcoin Marketplace OpenBazaar is the Biggest Winner of 2016 Blockchain Awards

Bitcoin-based online marketplace OpenBazaar was the biggest winner at the 2016 Blockchain Awards, sponsored by Blockchain and held at the Coin Center Annual Dinner.

OpenBazaar and its platform development company OB1 jointly won three of the five awards set by the event, including Best New Startup, Bitcoin Champion of the Year, and Most Promising Consumer Application.

The announcement of the grand prize, a reader-voted contest, marks the culmination of a strong momentum for OpenBazaar, a platform that has been viewed as a Silk Road-like black market since its launch in April and has since gained strong support from buyers and merchants.

The other two awards were Most Insightful Journalist for Laura Shin of Forbes News and Most Significant Technical Achievement for Ethereum.

The last Blockchain Awards was held at the Bitcoin 2014 Conference in Amsterdam, and this time it is as part of Consensus 2016.

Participants in the award ceremony included U.S. Congressman Mick Mulvaney of Arizona and Fred Wilson, an investment tycoon at Union Square Ventures.
