The DAO Proposal Framework officially becomes a must-have guide for proposals, addressing code flaws and attack vectors

The DAO community received some great news today. The DAO Proposal Framework has been finalized, meaning that stakeholder groups now have guidelines to follow if they want to submit proposals to DAO token holders.

Slock.it COO Stephen Tual said:

“This framework would not require immediate updates to the DAO, by creating a simple coding standard that all proposals would adopt before being whitelisted by curators.”

Recently, The DAO administrators held a meeting to discuss several flaws found in The DAO code and possible attack vectors. Last week, Alex van de Sande said:

“We talked about all the attack vectors and how destructive they could be. We talked about a lot, but I think the biggest concern was that there would be a lot of barriers to voting against a proposal.”

The developers believed that the DAO contract code needed to be updated, however, this approach would take some time to complete, so they decided to build a proposal framework as an alternative, which has now been implemented in the form of Solidity code.

A full explanation of the proposed framework guidelines can be found here . Overall, the proposed framework aims to minimize the vulnerabilities and attack vectors discovered by the research community.

Slock.it CTO Christoph Jentzsch said the framework addresses the most pressing flaws of DAOs, the bias of the yes-side and the barriers to no-votes, saying:

“This pre-vote resolves bias from the yes side in the event that the pre-vote is successful, while those who voted no can be safely separated, and can also mitigate malicious/slanderous attacks because those who are opposed to a proposal will not participate in the pre-vote and can veto the proposal in the second round.”

This effectively means that anyone who wishes to submit a proposal to the DAO must follow this framework, otherwise his submission will not be whitelisted by the administrator. Yanqi also submitted a pull request to the DAO's main repository on GitHub, which is the initial version of the much-anticipated DAO 1.1.

All in all, this is very good news for DAO token holders and all improvements to the code and the overall operation and development of the project are welcome.
