Burger King in the Netherlands now accepts Bitcoin payments

The Netherlands will establish a blockchain park in September. The blockchain park will work with banks and financial companies to jointly develop blockchain applications to complete payments and make the financial industry more extensive. According to the Dutch publication Volkskrant, in early September 2016, the Minister of Finance and Social Affairs Willem Vermeend revealed in the Netherlands that the Netherlands will open up the blockchain park market. Under the blockchain park, banks, finance and Fintech companies will work together to develop blockchain applications and solutions. Vermeend will take the lead in the new park's short name. Vermeend, a former politician, actively promotes innovation and reform in Fintech. Notably, Vermeend was appointed by the government as a liaison ambassador for the Fintech sector earlier this year. Vermeend's job is to be responsible for the connection between Fintech companies and government regulators and to find solutions for technology companies that encounter problems in finance. Vermeend's role also illustrates that the Netherlands is creating a good environment for the Internet financial industry. The intention behind the new park is not necessarily that the participating banks and companies will choose the same distributed ledger. Instead, the blockchain park under construction is promoting better information and knowledge sharing between companies and banks to study blockchain technology. The location of the new blockchain park has not yet been revealed. Vermeend said: The Dutch have great creativity, the problem is that the twenty companies I talked to don’t know each other’s blockchain development status. In addition, Vermeend also revealed that the Dutch Ministry of Finance believes that the potential of blockchain in the financial industry will be realized in the next few years.
