Investors Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss are one step closer to offering the world’s first SEC-regulated bitcoin investment product, following a request for comment published on Friday. SEC Assistant Secretary Jill Peterson has opened a public comment period on a request last month by BATS Exchange for a rule change that could result in Winklevoss Bitcoin shares issued by the Winklevoss Bitcoin Trust being listed on the exchange. “During its filing with the SEC, the (BATS) exchange included several statements regarding the purpose of the proposed rule change and discussed any comments received regarding the proposed rule change,” Peterson wrote. The SEC said it will approve or deny the request within 45 days . It is reported that the Winklevoss Bitcoin Trust was founded by Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss three years ago. It is also the Bitcoin company that is closest to obtaining SEC approval so far. After two years of trying to list on the Nasdaq under the ticker “COIN,” investors filed paperwork last month that officially changed their target exchange to BATS. As a result of last week's request, there were no significant changes to the trust's listing rules. |
