Blythe Masters serves as blockchain advisor to Santander Bank

Spanish bank Santander has announced that Blythe Masters, CEO of Digital Asset Holdings (DAH), will serve as the institution’s senior blockchain advisor.

Spain’s global bank Santander has announced that Blythe Masters will join its international advisory board and the board of directors of online bank Openbank in addition to serving as a senior blockchain advisor.

Previously, Masters served on the SC(US) Board of Directors.

Ana Botín, Executive Chairman of Santander Bank, said: “Blythe will bring her expertise in banking, commerce, blockchain with a significant impact on digital banking, international advisory board and strategic group. She worked for SC and I hope she will do the same for digital banking.”

Blythe Masters, a former executive of JP Morgan, worked in the bank for nearly three decades and is considered one of the founders of the credit derivatives market. She joined DAH in March 2015 and became an iconic figure in the field of blockchain services. In 2015, it was reported that Masters declined a job offer from Barclays Investment Bank in the UK and was determined to stay in the blockchain field.

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to further collaborate with Santander,” Masters said.

Santander Bank uses blockchain technology in a pilot project for cross-border payments in Europe. Specifically, Santander Bank (UK) merged with the Ripple blockchain platform and became the first British bank to use Ripple's cross-border transfer technology. The project shows that pounds used for payments can be converted into euros or even dollars to face the markets of 12 European countries and the United States.
