Another Bitcoin-for-cash robbery occurred in Florida!

Rage Review : A Lake Worth resident in Palm Beach, Florida, was robbed of $28,000 in Bitcoin cash during a face-to-face Bitcoin transaction. However, this is not the first Bitcoin transaction robbery. Last summer, a man in New York was robbed of up to $1,000 in Bitcoin at gunpoint. This means that Bitcoin cash exchange transactions are still risky, and a better way should be found to deal with this matter.

A Florida man was reportedly robbed during a $28,000 Bitcoin transaction this week.

According to the Sun-Herald, a news agency based in Palm Beach, Florida, a 34-year-old Lake Worth resident planned to exchange cash and digital currencies with two traders in West Palm Beach.

Manos reportedly told local authorities that he had previously had other bitcoin transactions with the two residents. However, on July 26, after Manos paid $28,000 in cash (worth about 40 bitcoins at press time), one of the two sellers pulled out a knife. During the ensuing struggle, one of the robbers tried to grab Manos' gun, and the two robbers fled with the money.

After Manos provided the Palm Beach Sheriff's Office with the contact number he used to initiate the sale, the Sheriff's Office arrested Andre Allen, 34, who Manos later identified in a police lineup.

Allen was arrested and held on $31,000 bond, and local arrest records show he was released on July 27.

The Palm Beach Sheriff's Office did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Real-world attacks

This is the latest in a string of bitcoin-related robberies in Florida.

In 2014, a Bitcoin mining farm in Tampa, Florida, was robbed by a former employee, in which approximately $35,000 worth of Bitcoin was stolen, along with as much as $150,000 in mining equipment.

But Florida isn’t the only place where in-person Bitcoin crimes have occurred. Last summer, for example, a man in New York was robbed of as much as $1,000 in Bitcoin at gunpoint.
