[Exclusive Report] Japan Smart Contract Hackathon Concludes, GPS Smart Contract Project Wins Grand Prize

The two-day blockchain hackathon held in Tokyo has come to an end. Among the many participating projects, a project that combines smart contracts with GPS stood out and won the Outstanding Work Award. The Best Creative Award was won by the idea of capturing healing mascots from all over Japan.
This conference is jointly sponsored by Consensys, Microsoft, SmartContract Japan, and the Ethereum Foundation. Participating teams come from all over the world. They hope to find suitable application scenarios through blockchain technology and smart contracts to maximize the advantages of smart contracts.

Whether you are a programmer or not, you can participate in such a hackathon to give full play to your imagination and work closely with multiple members within 48 hours to quickly develop a prototype of the project to prove your idea. In this process, the whole team will definitely be required to work together. Both creativity and practicality will be important reference criteria for the final evaluation.
In the projects we participated in, we can see blockchain enthusiasts from all over the world, including mainland China. They contributed their own ideas and many interesting scenarios using blockchain technology and smart contracts, providing many ideas for reference for the future development of the blockchain industry.

The first place this time was won by the B8 (pronounced the same as "bait", meaning "bait" in Chinese).

This project is a service platform that uses smart contracts to gather people. The initiator locks a certain amount of funds on the smart contract, sets the time, location and minimum number of people to gather. Then, at the specified time, the user arrives at the gathering place and sends the longitude and latitude data encrypted by the public key to the smart contract. When the number of people arriving at the designated location meets the minimum requirement, the smart contract automatically divides the locked funds equally among the users who are within a close enough range and have sent the encrypted longitude and latitude data to the smart contract. This platform can be used for advertising, queuing and signing in, and other scenarios. The initiator can specify gathering information other than the number of people and geographic location. Because the destination and the user's location are encrypted using an asymmetric algorithm using the public key, and the secret key is not in the hands of the user, even if you forge your own longitude and latitude, you cannot calculate the distance to the real destination.

The B8 team consists of Yoichi Nishimura (Japan), Takuya Obata (Japan), Zhu Peizong (Hong Kong, China), and Duan Xi (China). Yoichi Nishimura first proposed the original idea of combining GPS with smart contracts. After everyone's discussion and improvement, B8 finally realized the minimum viable product.

Duan Xi is the project manager of the B8 team. He is from mainland China and has many years of development experience at Sony Japan. He has participated in the development of multiple blockchain-related projects and is currently a member of the Wanxiang Blockchain Lab. He said,

This project is a new attempt by effectively combining smart contracts with GPS. In addition to tokens, more innovative applications will emerge if more information is carried on the blockchain.

In addition to this project, other projects include "lease contract", "digital copyright tracking system", "guide for foreigners", "marriage registration", "casino monitoring", "luxury goods tracking system", and "web payment system".
The winning team will receive rewards in Ethereum and Microsoft Azure cloud services.
