The “We Are All Satoshi” Project is Launched, Taking the Lead in Implementing the “Provably Correct Bitcoin” Initiative

Last week, the DACA Blockchain Association and Tsinghua University iCenter’s “We are Satoshi——Open Blockchain Sofeware in China” cooperation project held a signing ceremony at the Lee Shau Kee Building of Tsinghua iCenter, announcing the official launch of the “We are Satoshi” project.

This project is the first independently operated program in China for "core underlying blockchain technology development". Initiated by the DACA Blockchain Association and Tsinghua University iCenter, it aims to promote the development of blockchain technology in China, attract and cultivate more blockchain technology developers, and let the international community hear the voice of the Chinese community.

Professor Gu Xueyong, representative of Tsinghua University iCenter, Jihan Wu, CEO of Bitmain, Songxiu Hua, CEO of BITBANK, Xianfeng Cheng, CTO of Huobi, Daolin Zhu, Vice President of BTCC, Wen Hao, CEO of Bitai Wallet, Xu Xujun Lv, co-founder of Factom&Wanglu, He Haiwu, doctoral researcher of Hundred Talents Program of Computer Network Information Center of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shousong Zhang, President of DACA Association (CEO of Bitcoin Exchange), Feng Han, Secretary General of DACA Association, Yiji Xu, Deputy Secretary General of DACA Association, Hongjie Hu, and Li Ge Li, Assistant of DACA Association, attended the signing ceremony.

At the signing ceremony, the guests elaborated on their understanding of the development of blockchain core technology and prospects for its development trend. They actively discussed the development status, ecological environment, and security issues of blockchain technology at home and abroad, and put forward many reasonable suggestions and opinions on the implementation of this project.

It is understood that the "We Are All Satoshi" project will launch a talent recruitment plan next month, and through the blockchain public welfare university line promotion, attract teachers and students from relevant universities who are interested in blockchain open source project development to join and establish a talent pool. Subsequently, these personnel will be trained in special system development courses. The training content will be based on Tsinghua University's computational thinking course Nand2Tetris, which has been tested for a year at Tsinghua University and will be launched as soon as possible. For talents who pass the training and successfully complete the test and can contribute quality code programs, the project team will reward them every six months. At the same time, community fundraising will be launched next month, hoping to use the power of the community to promote the continuous development of high-quality talents in the entire industry.

Professor Gu Xueyong, a representative of Tsinghua University iCenter, said that the plan will be implemented in Tsinghua as soon as possible. Han Feng, Secretary General of the DACA Association, introduced the specific implementation process:

"The 'We Are All Satoshi Project' has signed a contract with Tsinghua University iCenter, incorporated into Tsinghua University's computational thinking courses, and jointly developed the Nand2Tetris website with Tsinghua University. Tsinghua University provides corresponding technical and course support to individuals and blockchain companies participating in the 'We Are All Satoshi Project', and periodically awards honors to individual developers with outstanding contributions. It promotes the rapid development of industry, academia, research and the industry. We also hold regular Bitcoin core technology development exchange and training activities at Tsinghua University, inviting top experts from CORE, CLACSIC, and UNLIMITED. We do not take sides, but only hope to promote technological progress."

Dr. Wang Xinxi from the National University of Singapore participated in the discussion remotely and presented the Provably Correct Bitcoin plan, which was also the biggest consensus reached at this meeting. He said that the main reason for this idea was that Bitcoin itself was not safe.

“The DAO was attacked some time ago, causing a major incident. Although Bitcoin has not experienced a similar incident, it does not mean that it will not happen in the future. If you look at the software development process of Bitcoin, you will know that it is not rigorous. So we need a formal (mathematical) method to ensure that Bitcoin is 100% bug-free.”

Dr. Wang Xinxi is the founder of Coinut.com, a Singapore-based bitcoin options trading platform founded in 2014 with investment from Bitmain and BoostVC.

Wang Xinxi introduced the specific implementation process of the Provably Correct Bitcoin project: We need to rewrite the Bitcoin code and prove that the code we wrote is correct, just like proving a mathematical proposition. Of course, it is costly to do the entire Bitcoin system again, so we will start with the Bitcoin core consensus part.

At the same time, he plans to establish a research center at the National University of Singapore, allowing NUS doctoral students and graduate students to join, and the research center will also recruit postdoctoral fellows to join. Currently, three professors from the National University of Singapore who have in-depth research on blockchain are interested in the project.

“In addition, after we define the specification, we will fully mobilize the community and let the community participate in its implementation.
The entire project will probably take several years.”

The DACA Association will help develop community power to accelerate the progress of the project, and both Bitcoin and Bitmain have expressed their full support for the program as the core of the “We Are All Satoshi” project.
