NCHI to select 15 winners from blockchain research competition

Rage Review : The Health Information Technology Department of the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC), a branch of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, publicly solicited white papers exploring how to use blockchain technology in the medical field. HHS revealed that it will use blockchain technology to promote the national medical information technology system and achieve broader interoperability. This solicitation has received more than 70 submissions, and only 15 winning proposals will be selected in the end, which shows that everyone is very interested in the application of blockchain in the medical field.

The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC), a branch of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), has announced the winners of its blockchain research report competition.

The “Blockchain Applications in Healthcare Information Technology and the Current Status of Healthcare-Related Research,” announced last month, is publicly soliciting white papers exploring how blockchain technology can be used in the healthcare field.

ONC said it received more than 70 submissions and will select only 15 winning proposals.

National Coordinator Vindell Washington said in a statement:

“We are very pleased to see the enthusiastic participation in the blockchain application competition. We all know that blockchain technology can be used for digital currencies, but people also see great potential for new and innovative use cases in the healthcare field.”

After announcing the competition, HHS revealed that it would use blockchain technology to promote broader interoperability of the nation’s health information technology systems. ONC has been pursuing this line of inquiry for the past few years, and the report released last October was also aimed at achieving this goal.

HHS, the Department of Defense, and the Department of Homeland Security are all large agencies in the United States that are researching blockchain technology.

ONC will host a seminar on blockchain at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) on September 26 and 27.
