BTC integrates blockchain and paper ballots to provide secure, tamper-proof voting solutions

Bitcoin ATM developer and blockchain technology company Blockchain Technologies Corp (BTC) has revealed that it is developing a tamper-proof voting machine dubbed “ VoteWatcher .”

The New York-based blockchain technology company, an accelerator for companies and startups centered around blockchain and bitcoin, has revealed that it is currently working on a blockchain voting machine that it says is ‘tamper-proof.’

Called ‘ VoteWatcher ’, it aims to ensure two core functions of the voting process. According to the company, these two functions are:

  1. Ensuring voting machines correctly capture the voters’ will

  2. Maintain voters’ trust that their votes are being counted accurately.

Although voting technology has advanced to the point where paperless voting is possible since the beginning of this century, the technology has always been criticized, and this time, BTC has once again introduced paper ballots in its tamper-proof voting system solution.

According to the company's announcement, paper ballots are "the only way to ensure secure and accurate elections."

Nick Spanos, CEO of BTC, said:

“What if a non-technical person wants to audit an election that was conducted using paperless electronic voting machines?”

He also said:

"All you can audit is the code and the machines used to tally the results. There is no original record of these ballots. Paper ballots are the only way to recount them for the public."

Paper ballots are the 'foundation' of VoteWatcher. During the voting process, the scanner can see the paper ballot inserted into the machine and record the voter's choice. The data obtained by the scan will then be uploaded to the blockchain, along with a hash of the photo of the ballot, to ensure that the ballot has not been tampered with.

While highlighting that the Bitcoin blockchain brings a ‘completely new paradigm of data integrity,’ the company added that the original paper ballots turned in by voters will ultimately be preserved for future recounts.

BTC has experience in providing election solutions, and its solutions were used in the Libertarian Party elections in Texas and New York with success.

According to previous reports, the company plans to complete at least one voting solution, nicknamed VoteUnit, before the 2016 presidential election.
