Shanghai forms new blockchain alliance

Baozou Comment : In early summer this year, the Shanghai government established the Shanghai Blockchain Industry Development Research Alliance after a conversation with local blockchain industry members. It is committed to building Shanghai into a blockchain technology center. Its group members include Shanghai Development and Reform Research Institute, Wanxiang Blockchain Laboratory, Hyperledger member BitSE, and sponsored by China Financial Information Center. In addition, Shanghai will hold the International Blockchain Week next week. Shanghai has gradually become the global blockchain strategic focus.

A new group is promoting blockchain technology in Shanghai.

The group calls itself the Shanghai Blockchain Industry Development Research Alliance, and its goal is to build Shanghai into a blockchain technology center. Media reports show that the group’s members include the Shanghai Municipal Development and Reform Research Institute, Wanxiang Blockchain Lab, and the Shanghai Municipal Development and Reform Research Institute.

The group was formed earlier this summer following talks between the Shanghai government and members of the local blockchain industry.

"The Shanghai government wants to pay attention to and support this kind of innovative application of blockchain."

The group is similar to another organization in Shenzhen.

In June, 31 companies formed an alliance to share information, technology and jointly develop. Notable sponsors of the organization include Ping An Bank and the QQ chat application development team affiliated with Tencent.

China has formed a deep connection with Bitcoin through its mining and trading ecosystem, and traditional companies are gradually extending their focus from the digital currency field to blockchain applications. Next week, Shanghai will also be the venue for a series of blockchain-related conferences.

The group is said to be sponsored by the China Finance Information Center, home to Xinhua News Agency and other financial services companies. The organizers of the group said that the information center will play an important role in promoting the technology and provide a platform for communication between participating companies and start-ups.

Other members include the Shanghai Institute of Science, Lujiazui Internet Finance Association and Jiading Industrial Zone Economic Development Co.
