Steam claims to have been hacked due to Coinbase vulnerability, losing nearly 25 BTC

The hacker attacked it through the Keyvendor bot in the Steam community. It is said that nearly 25 Bitcoins were lost.

Steam began accepting Bitcoin earlier this year, and Keyvendor, a well-known bot project in its community, uses Coinbase to ensure Bitcoin security and perform Bitcoin conversions.

On Monday evening this week, 'Jambo' from KeyVendor.net revealed that their Bitcoin had been stolen.

Jambo said in the initial community announcement:

“There was a breach at our payment processor Coinbase and all our bitcoins and keys were stolen by hackers from the Keyvendor bot.”

“The stolen bitcoins were worth $15,000. However, the problem was not with the bot, but with Coinbase’s merchant services.”

At the time of publication, Coinbase has not made any statement on this issue. Perhaps due to time constraints, it has not had time to issue a statement.

Keyvendor chose to release the news first and clarify the responsibility, but every accident usually has two sides.

We will get more information when Coinbase officially responds.

Jambo also said in the announcement:

“I want to be clear that your funds or keys are not at risk when stored with our service.”

"We will pay for the stolen funds out of our own pocket, however, there are important things to deal with first. Time is of the essence, which is why our statement is so short. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience. We hope you can understand."
Based on the current Bitcoin price, $15,000 is equivalent to approximately 25 BTC.

Steam began accepting Bitcoin as a payment option in May this year, following an agreement reached with BitPay in February. The official announcement date was April 21, 2016.
