Roger Ver publicly supports Bitcoin hard fork: Two Bitcoins are better than one

After months of heated debate over whether Bitcoin should scale, it looks like there’s still no consensus in sight. The community is at a crossroads, with two different opinions on forking the network to increase the block size from 1MB to 20MB.

However, getting the majority of valid nodes, miners and the rest of the biological network in a proper way is a very important issue. One camp believes that the current network can only process 7 transactions per second, which is very weak and uncompetitive. The other camp believes that the implementation of a hard fork will withdraw transactions, which is contrary to the basic principles of blockchain technology and its immutable ledger.

Roger Ver: Ethereum's split is a good thing

Coin Telegraph spoke with Bitcoin.com CEO Roger Ver, also known as 'Bitcoin Jesus', about whether Bitcoin should be expanded at this critical moment when it is becoming the global digital currency of choice. When asked whether the expansion will cause the Bitcoin community to split like Ethereum, Roger said:

“The market has clearly shown that the split of Ethereum in two was a good thing, as its market cap increased after the split. I think it will be a good thing for both camps to develop their own incompatible versions of Bitcoin in their own way.”

Coin Telegraph (CT): Why is Bitcoin hard fork a necessary step?

Roger Ver: Whenever two camps have incompatible opinions, they should go their separate ways.

CT: How do you explain some people’s hostility towards hard forks?

RV: I think 99% of the hostility in the Bitcoin ecosystem is hatred that is a direct result of Theymos' (/r/Bitcoin moderator) policy of not allowing dissenting opinions on the main Bitcoin discussion platform he controls. The fact that those who benefit from suppressing certain opinions almost never complain about Theymos' policies, and some even openly support the suppression of dissenting opinions, has fueled the hostility. Before that, there was almost no anger or hatred. Fortunately, /r/BTC and Bitcoin.com are providing an alternative platform for people to have open discussions.

Breg Maxwell publicly refuses to condemn /r/Bitcoin for censorship.

Having two Bitcoin options

CT: Do you think Bitcoin will be able to scale in the near future without major consequences?

RV: I don’t think the hard fork is as big of a problem as some people think. Some people like to call the Ethereum fork a disaster, but I don’t think so. The real disaster was the poorly designed The DAO.

CT: What about the idea that hard forks will reduce the distrust and value proposition of Bitcoin?

RV: I don’t think having two Bitcoins to choose from is a bad thing at all. I’m happy to have a lot of choices in my life, and I don’t think there will be more choices related to money.

CT: Is this going to reverse global Bitcoin usage and investment?

RV: Bitcoin's global adoption and investment has been put on hold because the current Bitcoin Core development team has ignored businesses and users around the world and refused to scale Bitcoin to keep up with demand. Bitcoin once had over 95% of the cryptocurrency market in both market cap and volume. Today, it's down to 79% and 60% respectively. Anyone who's paying attention can see that this is a huge warning sign - if this continues, Bitcoin will become the Myspace of crypto. I know of a company with 100 million monthly active users that put its integration on hold because Bitcoin was not allowed to scale. We can directly blame the current Bitcoin Core team for Bitcoin's lack of global adoption. We are busy building a competitive development team to try and save Bitcoin before it loses its leadership position completely.

Ethereum Classic is the real Ethereum

CT: Doesn’t rolling back transactions contradict the fundamental principles of blockchain?

RV: I don’t think it’s contradictory, but most Ethereum users don’t think so. I haven’t paid close attention to Ethereum issues, but from what I know, I think Ethereum Classic is the real Ethereum.

CT: What do you think the Bitcoin hard fork will look like?

RV: Ideally, everyone would join the Bitcoin space because they would find Bitcoin to be the most attractive.

However, some other netizens were upset by Roger Ver's remarks.

Netizen Jeff Perkowitz said: This guy plans to fork Bitcoin from the current chain, but claims that Ethereum Classic is the real Ethereum. This guy is a serious idiot.

However, some people also said: Let’s fork it quickly, I hope to be able to use Bitcoin at a fast transaction speed.
