UK government launches £15 million competition for distributed ledger projects

The UK government has launched a new technology competition to solicit distributed ledger technology projects.

Innovate UK, a UK government agency dedicated to investing in innovative companies and "identifying and accelerating" technology development, has launched the Emerging and Enabling Technologies programme and set up a £15 million prize.

The competition introduction states:

“Our aim is to encourage new products, processes and services; ones that have the potential to unlock billions of pounds of value and disrupt existing markets”.

The technologies being solicited for this competition are called "improving performance and productivity," and the list includes many application technologies, such as satellite applications, sensors, the Internet of Things, virtual reality (VR) or augmented reality (AR).

The agency is looking for innovative application technologies that can benefit multiple industries or form new business models. The application deadline is November 30.
