ETC Development Community: If more than 51% of users insist on continuing to use the old client, we will abandon the hard fork

ETC Hard Fork

ETC (Ethereum Classic) will undergo a hard fork at block 2500000 , which is 10月25日, to solve the network problems caused by spam attacks (sending a large amount of spam messages that cause the platform to fail to operate normally). Before the fork, users must use ETC Geth client 3.0.0 (download address) or Parity client 1.3.9 (not yet released).

ETC Improvement Protocol (ECIP)

Developers are still discussing replay attacks, monetary policy, system security, and other related issues.

ETC Core Client

The ETC Geth client 3.0.0 beta version is officially released. It will be forked at block 2500000 and gas will be reset.

Parity 1.7.9, like ETC Geth, will also support forked blocks.

The client for this upgrade only involves Geth, and Eth-cpp is also being processed, but we will consider upgrading other ETC clients (such as ethereumj or pyethereum) after the hard fork. Although this fork has been determined and there is not much controversy, if some users do not support the fork, they can continue to use ETC Geth 2.0.0 or Parity 1.7.8. If more than 51% of users insist on continuing to use the old version of the software, we will abandon the hard fork. That being said, we still encourage all users to switch to the new client.

The ETH Geth client implemented a hard fork at block 2463000. After the ETH hard fork, its Geth client is incompatible with ETC and its own Parity. ETH developers also admitted that this fork will cause confusion to users, so they added the following paragraph to the release page:

Regardless of the existence of the --oppose-dao-fork parameter (when ETH first hard forked, the Geth client suggested that users choose whether to support the hard fork by adding a parameter, --support-dao-fork means support, and --oppose-dao-fork means opposition), EIP150 will officially take effect at block 2463000. If you are against the hard fork, you can choose to switch to the Geth client maintained by ETC developers.

Marketing

The Ubuntu PPA repository for the Linux operating system (where developers and enthusiasts can provide Ubuntu users with the latest versions of software by uploading PPAs) has been updated.

ETC Docker (Linux-based open source application container engine) version is updated to 3.0.0.

Azure (Microsoft's cloud computing operating system) templates are also available.

Volunteers are welcome to join all ETC projects. Any effort you make will make the system stronger.

Fundonomy Project Report

CoinJournal reported on the ECT project Fundonomy. Here is an excerpt from the article:

A new decentralized crowdfunding platform Fundonomy is about to release its alpha test version (originally planned to be released on October 15, but postponed due to the attack). The platform supports users to publish crowdfunding projects on the ETC blockchain without requiring users to be familiar with the technical principles.

According to Dr. Avtar Sehra, the platform’s administrator, Fundonomy aims to create a secure, easy-to-use and fully decentralized platform to promote projects, raise funds and build awareness.

Community Participation in Development

A post on Reddit and other social platforms encourages users to work together for the development of ETC and solve community problems. It mainly involves users in the construction of ETC through a series of processes: "discussion - opinion - proposal (ECIP) - debate - acceptance or rejection - implementation".

BnkTo The Future supports ETC

BnkTo The Future, a global online investment platform, announced that it will accept ETC investments.

Eligible investors can currently use ETC to invest in companies listed on @BankToTheFuture, including @KimDotcom.
