Bloq CEO Jeff Garzik Elected to Linux Foundation Board of Directors

Bloq CEO and co-founder Jeff Garzik has been elected to the Linux Foundation’s board of directors. Garzik is also a former Bitcoin Core developer.

Garzik is the first member of the Linux Foundation board of directors with a background in Bitcoin and blockchain applications. Garzik's selection represents the growing maturity of the Hyperledger project and also marks the increasing popularity of Bitcoin and blockchain technology.

Currently, the Linux Foundation's board of directors is mostly composed of leading companies in the industry, including Cisco, Fujitsu, Hitachi, HP, IBM, Intel, Oracle and Samsung, all of which are committed to open technology development and commercial promotion.

Garzik said in an interview:

Open source is fundamental to the development of innovative technologies.

In the early days, Linux was also committed to open source technology. Like blockchain technology, the contributions of both are undeniable. Red Hat (an open source solution provider) has enabled all enterprises to use Linux systems, and Bloq is currently committed to a similar goal, hoping that every enterprise can use blockchain.

Bloq provides blockchain technology solutions to global enterprises and is also a member of the Hyperledger project.

Hyperledger began in December 2015 and is an open source project initiated by the Linux Foundation. It aims to study the important advantages of blockchain technology and establish cross-industry open standards for distributed ledgers.

Bloq is also a partner of Deloitte. The two parties announced a partnership in May this year to provide enterprise-level blockchain software solutions to Deloitte’s clients, including world-class top companies and the world’s top 30 banks.

Earlier this year, Bloq released its first product: a multi-pronged blockchain software solution that allows enterprise users to create, update, customize and analyze their own public, private and permissioned blockchains.

The product, called BloqEnterprise, is a blockchain operating system that provides services for private and public blockchains.

Garzik co-founded Bloq in November 2015 with Matt Roszak, a well-known entrepreneur and venture capitalist, with the goal of providing customized blockchain solutions. Garzik said:

Open source is key to accelerating innovation... but at some point, a technology needs enterprise-grade solutions before it can make it into the Fortune 500. Sitting back and waiting for so-called enthusiasts to take the first step is not an option.
