Gavin Andresen has publicly voiced his support for Bitcoin Unlimited (BU) and its network scaling solution. Yesterday, the former Bitcoin Core developer and founder of the Bitcoin Foundation said that BU is “a viable and practical solution to severe transaction congestion.” He added that the amount of scaling that can be achieved with Segregated Witness (SegWit) is “too small”, and will only increase block size to 2 MB, which “could easily be reached before wallets and users adopt the technology.” Andresen has frequently spoken out for BU recently, believing that BU is the best choice for the next step in Bitcoin's development, and criticized Bitcoin Core for not putting user needs first. (Gavin Anderson) Earlier this month, a bug occurred in the BU node, and a miner lost 13.2 bitcoins (worth about $12,000 at the time) because he ran the BU client. Andresen chose to defend BU. He responded on Twitter that Core's response to this incident was unreasonable and they should focus on reducing the current transaction fees. With the fate of the bitcoin network’s scaling far from certain, market commentators continue to weigh in, making the issue a melting pot of differing viewpoints. However, Bitcoin’s price and trading volume seem unaffected by this question about the future. The price of the currency has set new all-time highs for two consecutive days. |
