Strong demand for bitcoin mining chips has made Bitmain one of TSMC's largest customers. It is said that Bitmain has placed an order for mining ASICs at TSMC's 12-inch production plant in Nanjing, and it is expected that the plant will allocate a monthly production line for Bitmain to produce up to 200,000 12-inch wafers of 16nm process. Bitmain will also use the production capacity of TSMC's Nanjing production plant to produce Ethereum mining ASICs, and it is expected to start shipping in the second quarter and launch Ethereum mining ASIC products in April. Nvidia has also increased orders for digital currency mining chips. TSMC's revenue in March will rebound strongly, returning to above NT$100 billion (US$3.43 billion), driven by 16nm and 12nm chip orders from Nvidia and Bitmain. |
