According to CCN, an Australian data center operator and its cryptocurrency subsidiary are developing what they call the country’s first “behind-the-scenes data center” powered by renewable energy. The new facility in the coal mining town of Collie, about 200 kilometers south of Perth, is being developed by data center operator DC2 and subsidiary D Coin and will reportedly be powered by a solar farm built by a company called Hadouken. The company’s main goal is to achieve competitive electricity prices through major renewable energy sources, claiming to provide Australia’s lowest-cost and highest-density data center. Notably, the data center will offer specific areas customized for hosting cryptocurrency mining operations. |
