Mining business is condemned by everyone The city of Salamanca, New York, has passed a resolution that will ban the approval and application of virtual currency mining operations. The suspension of mining operations is based on the regulations of the municipal power department, while making urban planning and land use more reasonable, and residential users can continue to have cheap electricity. All states in the United States have introduced relevant regulatory measures. Virtual currency mining continues to occupy cheap electricity, causing many city power commissions to suffer. In July, the regulator in Massena, another small town in northern New York State, even directly charged virtual currency miners higher energy fees. Mining operations are usually moved to places with low energy prices. Generally speaking, miners will consider resource-rich areas where they can use these resources to obtain energy. For example, hydroelectric and geothermal energy in Canada and Iceland have attracted virtual currency mines from all over the world. However, the energy consumed by Bitcoin mining has become a political issue. In areas with low electricity costs, including the U.S.-Canada border, Iceland, and China, different forms of treatment have been adopted for the virtual currency mining industry. Moving virtual currency mines to the suburbs can no longer bring benefits. The continued decline in the prices of Bitcoin and other altcoins has also caused the entire mining industry to continue to fall into trouble. Some mining farms are already considering trying to use solar and wind power. Building a wind farm in the Sahara A blockchain company called Soluna plans to build a 900-megawatt wind farm in the Western Sahara desert, and the batteries will provide power to computer centers in the Moroccan region. Construction of the facility is due to begin in 2019 and the wind farm will not be connected to the national grid but will provide electricity exclusively for the computer centre. Morocco has long been a top region for renewable energy companies, with the country’s vast deserts providing ample wind and solar power. The blockchain company’s move to the Moroccan government is a natural fit, with Morocco getting a new image and mining farms getting electricity. The project is currently under construction and will cost RMB 9.5 to 17 billion in the initial phase. It is expected to provide 36 megawatts of electricity. The first batch of electricity will be invested in Bitcoin mining. |
