According to Xinhua News Agency, citing Europe's "Chinatown", recently, the Como police foiled a Bitcoin scam of astonishing value, involving 3,000 Bitcoins and 17 million euros. According to the client's description to the police, a few months ago, someone contacted him through a social networking site and expressed his desire to buy 3,000 bitcoins worth about 17 million euros. The two parties met as scheduled at a hotel in Lugano. After arriving at the hotel, the two buyers suddenly asked to test his sincerity and asked him to transfer 3.5 bitcoins worth about 20,000 euros first. When the bitcoin transfer was completed, the buyers gave him 100,000 euros in cash without saying a word. The client recalled the various problems that occurred that day, and the more he thought about it, the more wrong it was, so he asked the police for help. The police arrived at the scene quickly, controlled the two scammers, and found 69,000 euros in real banknotes and a large number of counterfeit bills in the briefcase. According to police investigation, both scammers are from Milan and have a long criminal record for property crimes. The investigation is still ongoing and it is not clear whether there are any accomplices. |
