The XMR (Monero) official website decided to change the algorithm again due to ASIC mining machines. This time, XMR decided to fork at 1685555 (around October 18, 2018), and will update from CryptoNight-7 algorithm to CryptoNight-8 algorithm. XMR has always emphasized resistance to ASIC mining machines, and the algorithm is upgraded approximately every six months. The last algorithm upgrade was in April 2018. After the XMR algorithm is updated, the old algorithm will no longer be able to mine, and the new algorithm must be used. In addition to the kernel, the wallet address will also be updated. After the update, the old wallet address will no longer be usable, and the mining pool will also need to support the new algorithm, so the changes this time are actually quite large. According to past experience, every time the algorithm is updated, some miners will not have time to switch the algorithm, which will cause the computing power of the entire network to be relatively low for a period of time. However, because the rewards are fixed, miners who upgrade to the new algorithm first will have a great advantage. So what should miners do for this upgrade? 1. Mining Pool Next, let’s discuss the mining pool first. As for the mining pool, we chose F2Pool for investigation. According to F2Pool’s reply, F2Pool will coordinate this update. If the miners are already mining in F2Pool, they don’t need to worry about this issue. If it is other mining pools, the miners will need to ask the customer service of the mining pool itself to confirm the situation. 2. Wallet Address With this algorithm upgrade, the wallet address must also be upgraded accordingly. We have also consulted some mining pools on this issue. According to customer service feedback, the upgrade of the wallet address needs to be processed on the platform where the wallet itself is obtained. If it has not been upgraded yet, hurry up to avoid unnecessary losses in the future. 3. Kernel Finally, there is the kernel. The new algorithm is backward compatible, that is, the V8 kernel algorithm can be used, but the V7 kernel algorithm can no longer be used after the height of 1685555. Should miners "strike first" and switch to the V8 algorithm? 1. A card kernel First, we tested some of the cores of the A card, and through the test we also told the miners about the problems we encountered, and the miners can consider them after their own analysis. ①. Claymore's CryptoNight Claymore'CryptoNight is a kernel we are very familiar with, but up to now, this kernel has not released a version that supports the latest algorithm of XMR; ②.SRBMiner The new algorithm version of the SRBMiner kernel is temporarily unstable for blocks below 1685555, and has a high rejection rate on F2Pool, but the actual computing power of the mining pool is similar to that of Claymore, so it is worth recommending. ③.cast_xmr-vega1.5 I haven't found out how to specify GPU to run in cast_xmr-vega1.5 yet, so it can be considered for single card. ④.XmrigN 2.8.1 The only problem with the A-card version of XmrigN 2.8.1 is that the computing power is relatively low, about 20% lower, but the transition in a short period of time should be a relatively low-risk kernel. 2. N card kernel In the N card kernel, we tested the N card version of XmrigN 2.8.1. In the test, the computing power of this version gradually decreased compared with the V7 version, which should be around 10%-15%. Through numerous kernel test comparisons, the V8 algorithm kernel is not very adaptable to blocks below 1685555, but it is not ruled out that it will be corrected for heights above. As for which kernel to use for a temporary transition before that, it is up to the miners to consider for themselves. Miners can also use some mining software that has integrated more of the above-mentioned kernels, such as zxminer. --------------------- Author: lolojess Source: CSDN Original text: https://blog.csdn.net/lolojess/article/details/83107257?utm_source=copy Copyright statement: This article is an original article by the blogger.
